Do you have a question for Rasheed Newson, author of 'My Government Means to Kill Me'? Fill out the form and let us know!
After a super successful event in Los Angeles in March, we’re thrilled to be hosting our first New York City reading on May 5 in the East Village in conjunction with
, author of Glitter and Concrete: A Cultural History of Drag in New York City and the newsletter. The event is FREE and open to the public! Join us at 7:30pm on Monday, May 5 at Niagara (112 Avenue A at E. 7th St) to hear works read by , , , , , and .
We’ll have copies of The QLP Quarterly zine as well as T-shirts and other merch (which are also on offer on our Etsy page). If you’re not able to make it, don’t fret: We hope to share some videos and other recaps of the night for you to enjoy!
NEXT UP!
It’s nearly a week away from our first QLP Virtual Book Club.
Our first book to discuss on May 12 will be:
Rasheed Newson’s My Government Means to Kill Me.
The Queer Love Project Book Club is for paid subscribers of this newsletter. We’ll meet on Zoom, every other month, and our first gathering will be Monday, May 12 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.
We’re dedicated to keeping all of our words free for readers, so this is a way to show your support and have a little fun the process. Again, you must be a paid subscriber to participate, but you can do that for as little as $5 USD. That’s less than the price of a cup of coffee or a good slice of pizza. Plus, you’ll get that warm, fuzzy feeling of supporting LGBTQ+ writers since we pay our contributors, and we are committed to keeping all of our words free and available to our readers around the globe.
My hope is that this will be a fun, casual opportunity to explore books together. We’re focusing on novels, collections of short stories, and fiction since we already publish nonfiction and personal essays at QLP. This will be a chance to venture into contemporary literature (and maybe some classics at some point) and share our viewpoints on how queer love and relationships is portrayed in popular culture.
To join: All you need to do is upgrade to a paid subscription—everyone who does so will get a Zoom link the Sunday before our meeting. Just click on a Subscribe button. Drop any questions in the comments.
If you are planning to attend or want to receive more information, please register and let us know if you have any questions about the book you’d like to have covered or something you’d like to make sure Rasheed has an opportunity to answer by filling out this form.
We’ll email a Zoom link to all paid subscribers ahead of the event, so stay tuned for that information and a reminder that the event is taking place on May 12 at 8pm ET/5pm PT.
If you’d like to attend and are not currently a paid subscriber, please email us to let us know that you’re not able to upgrade your membership at this time but would like to participate.
We pay our contributors, so your paid subscription and support is valuable! Thanks for reading.
Plus, if you’ve been curious about how you can see the full template of questions and participate so you can share your answers with our community, here’s a form that includes all of them. After submitting, I’ll be in touch to check in with you about timing and photos and other details. Don’t be shy!
That’s all for now. I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible in person at our event on Monday, May 5 in New York or virtually on Monday, May 12. Until then~
We are now offering T-shirts and this tote on our Etsy page.
So excited to read tomorrow!
Oh wow! Small world! I might just hop on by for Monday.
